Justice William Ramlall tipped for PCA chair

first_imgJustice William Ramlall has been tipped to be the new Chairman of the Police Complaints Authority (PCA), replacing retired Justice Cecil Kennard.President David Granger on Thursday wrote to Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo with intentions of appointing Justice William Ramlall to the said position.This appointment is expected to be made in accordance with Section 3 (1) of the Police Complaints Authority Act, Chapter 17:02.The retired High Court Judge acted in the said capacity for 16 years specialising in criminal and civil law, particularly in the areas of analysis and assessment of evidence, the writing of judgements and the interpretation of statutes, among other skills.Ramlall also led a successful private practice, also served as a Magistrate for several years in addition to a State Counsel in the Attorney General’s ChambersJustice William Ramlalland a teacher of Commercial Law.The retired Judge attended the University of Guyana, where he read for the Bachelor of Laws Part One before proceeding to the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus, where he completed Parts Two and Three.He is also the holder of a Legal Education Certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School and was a part of several professional training programmes.Ramlall also attended a USAID sponsored programme on money laundering in Saint Lucia, a United Kingdom judicial studies board sponsored programmed in criminal and civil litigation, a USAID sponsored programme in mediation and dispute resolution and was trained in Commercial Court matters.last_img read more
