Championship: Brighton enter top two as Hull drop points, Ipswich edge Rovers

first_imgHull City 1-1 Nottingham ForestHull’s automatic promotion bid continued to falter as they were held to a second successive home draw and slipped to fourth in the Sky Bet Championship table.Hull were held 1-1 by Nottingham Forest, the same score as against MK Dons at the KC Stadium on Saturday.Forest earned new manager Paul Williams a point in his first game in charge since being appointed to replace Dougie Freedman for the remainder of the season.Forest took a first-half lead through Gary Gardner’s rising shot from distance before Sone Aluko slid home a second half equaliser for Hull whose winless run in the Championship extended to four games.Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0 ReadingJames Wilson netted a first-half winner as Brighton moved up to second place in the Championship following a 1-0 victory over Reading.Albion, who now boast five successive clean sheets, survived a late rally from the Royals to record their first league win over the Berkshire side in 12 attempts. The Seagulls have now won five of their last six home games and Reading’s defeat still leaves them without a clean sheet away from home for six months.Ipswich Town 2-0 Blackburn RoversBirthday boy Daryl Murphy scored his first goals for two months as Ipswich continued their push for a play-off place with a 2-0 victory over Blackburn. Two second-half goals were the difference in a largely dismal match as the Ipswich striker scored from the penalty spot after Luke Chambers was pulled down and then made the points safe three minutes before the end.The scoreline was slightly harsh on a Blackburn side who matched a team with designs on the top six, but they lacked a clinical marksman like Murphy, who celebrated his 33rd birthday in style. 1 Brighton enter top two in the Championship after victory over Reading last_img read more
