Utah Baseball Dominates Pac-12 Opener 21-10 at Arizona

first_img Robert Lovell FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailTUCSON – The Utah baseball team scored at least one run in the first seven innings to crush the Arizona Wildcats 21-10 to start Pac-12 play on Friday, March 15 at Hi Corbett Field.Seven players on the team scored multiple runs and Oliver Dunn led the way with six RBI after going 3-6 at the plate. Dominic Foscalina also had a good day at the plate with four RBI. It’s the fifth time this season that the Utes have scored double-digit runs and first time the team has scored over 20 runs since plating 23 against Utah Valley in 2017.Utah jumped on Arizona right away, scoring three runs in the first and two more in the second chasing Arizona’s Friday night starter after just two innings.It didn’t get better for the Wildcats after they went to their bullpen as the Utes went on to score 11 runs in the next two innings to lead 15-2 in the fifth inning.Along with the bats working, starter Kyle Robeniol had a career high seven strikeouts in 6.0 innings pitched. He only gave up three runs on six hits. The seven strikeouts were not only a career high for him, but a season high for Utah’s starters. His record moves to 1-1 on the season.The Utes bullpen found itself in some trouble in the seventh, but Zac McCleve came in and pitched the final 2.2 innings only allowing two base runners to close out the game for Utah.Designated hitter Isaac Deveaux went 3-3 at the plate and scored three runs and Zack Moeller stayed hot going 4-5 at the plate with two RBI and scored two more runs.In all, Utah scored 21 runs on 21 hits to move their record to 7-6 on the season and 1-0 in the Pac-12.Utah will look to clinch the series against Arizona on Saturday, March 16 at 7 p.m. MT.
