BLOG: Thank You for Supporting Federal LGBT Non-discrimination May 20, 2016 Like Governor Tom Wolf on Facebook: Facebook.com/GovernorWolf By: The Office of Governor Tom Wolf Equality, National Issues, Non-discrimination, The Blog We want to extend our thanks to the U.S. representatives from Pennsylvania who stood with U.S. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-NY) in support of federal LGBT non-discrimination.Though the U.S. House of Representatives this week ultimately voted down a measure sponsored by Rep. Maloney that would have amended a military construction and veterans affairs spending bill to uphold the Obama Administration’s executive order banning discrimination against LGBT employees by federal contractors, the following U.S. representatives from Pennsylvania supported Rep. Maloney’s measure:Rep. Brendan BoyleRep. Bob BradyRep. Matt CartwrightRep. Ryan CostelloRep. Charlie DentRep. Michael F. DoyleRep. Chaka FattahRep. Mike FitzpatrickRep. Pat MeehanGovernor Tom Wolf is fighting for non-discrimination legislation in Pennsylvania that ensures people throughout the commonwealth – regardless of sexual orientation, gender expression or identity – are treated equally under Pennsylvania law.In April, Governor Wolf signed two executive orders that expand protections from discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender expression or identity for state employees and, for the first time, employees of contractors doing business with the commonwealth.Governor Wolf’s non-discrimination executive orders are an effort to explicitly and decisively end discrimination based on sexual orientation in the executive branch of our state government. But while these executive orders apply to commonwealth employees and employees of contractors doing business with the commonwealth, we need the legislature to pass a statewide non-discrimination bill that protects all Pennsylvanians and makes it clear to the world that Pennsylvania is a welcoming place for everyone. We need to ensure that Pennsylvania is a welcoming place regardless of the color of your skin, your gender, the religion you profess, or the person you love.
