Something super is coming to rugby – Super Rugby launch

first_imgTuesday Sep 14, 2010 Something super is coming to rugby – Super Rugby launch In case you haven’t heard yet, yesterday saw the launch of the newly formed Super 15 tournament, now with an extra team (Melbourne Rebels), a new format, and re-branded as Super Rugby .Theres plenty of change for the tournament, not only with the Rebels joining, but with more games, more derbies, and a longer tournament that is bound to test the depth of each respective squad.Just so theres no confusion, theyve come up with a new, blue logo, and the 15 teams will come from a new three conference system, made up of South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. Each team will play the other four teams in their conference twice and four of the other two conferences away, as well as four teams of the other conferences at home. Still following? What it means is that each team wont play each other, and two will be missed out, one from each of the other conferences. There will be more derby matches, and of each of the 16 league matches that a team will play, 12 will be in their home country. The finals will be made up of a three-week, six-team finals series, which the winner of each conference will automatically qualify for.The other three teams with the highest total competition points, no matter which conference theyre from, will take up the next three spots. There will be an increase in overall matches of 33%, from 94 to 125. In non-World Cup years there will be a 50% increase in the length of the season, and in World Cup years, only a 31% increase, with it changing from 16 weeks to 21 weeks. The common perception from players, coaches, and even some fans, is that there is too much rugby at the moment, especially when we look at attendance figures in some parts. While its sure to be entertaining, is this really the best way forward, or are we looking at revenue figures being put ahead of the well being of the sport? This video gives you a better understanding of whats to come, and shows a little bit of how we got to this point. Excuse the last minute, which for whatever reason just shows that interestingnew logo. Feel free to share your thoughts below. Onsite at CO-OP THiNK: Top 10 takeaways from Day 2

first_imgDid you know that many years ago the great Steve Wozniak borrowed $500 from a credit union to help replace a stolen TV; he needed to replace it because it wanted to turn that TV into something new which eventually lead to the creation of Apple. Pretty incredible right, you did that, you had a hand in changing the way we function in the world on a daily basis. A lot of people don’t know that story, so what else are we leaving out? Today at CO-OP THiNK we discussed how we can bring innovation into the credit unions, here the top 10 thoughts.Unite with one voice. Sure every individual credit union is going to have something that makes them unique but our overall purpose is the same. That’s the message we need to focus on.Never miss an opportunity to share. Social media can be our biggest, most powerful ally if we will only take advantage of it. Share your local story, invest a few dollars in a promoted post. People love to read positive, “feel good” stories and you have just that.Don’t stereotype millennials. If you are only thinking of a millennial as a recent college grad, living at home with no job and student loans. It’s time to widen your view. Millennials have steady jobs, homes, and kids of their own. By generalizing your message to them you are losing valuable members.Unlock your creativity. We are all innately creative, it’s just as we get older our definition of what it means to be creative becomes skewed. Take some time to notice when you feel creative and act.Innovation doesn’t mean an overhaul. Innovation can be the smallest of things that ends up significantly impacting your processes. Don’t be afraid to bring an idea to the table because you feel it isn’t “glamorous” enough.Create a culture shift. “Because we’ve always done it this way” is a phrase we should never have to hear again. A culture change won’t happen overnight, but start making small changes to work towards a more open and collaborative environment.Make data visual. Bring your ideas and data to life. Creating a visual impacts people on an emotional level and it will be easier to get others (who may have previously been reluctant) to get on board.Exercise empathy. With your employees and members. Showing empathy will create brand ambassadors for life.Stop making excuses. Regulation, limited budgets, etc. etc. Guess what every industry deals with issues. Time to move on, the bottom line is we either embrace innovation or we become irrelevant. Encourage curiosity. Allow employees to try new things, set aside a percentage of your budget specifically for something new. If it works, run with it, if not move on. Curiosity is what will keep you ahead of the game. 15SHARESShareShareSharePrintMailGooglePinterestDiggRedditStumbleuponDeliciousBufferTumblr,Amanda Reed Web: www.CUInsight.com Detailslast_img read more

Somali pirates ‘seize Danish children’ in Indian Ocean

first_img Share Tweet News Somali pirates ‘seize Danish children’ in Indian Ocean by: – February 28, 2011 BBC NewsSomali pirates usually target cargo vessels for the ransoms often paid out by shipping firmsThree Danish children and their parents have been snatched by pirates who hijacked their sailing boat in the Indian Ocean, Danish officials say.Denmark’s foreign ministry said the children were aged between 12 and 16, and that two Danish crew members were also captured during the attack.Pirates seized the boat on 24 February and were said to be heading to Somalia.Piracy is a highly lucrative trade in Somalia, where gangs can often demand millions of dollars in ransoms. As of last week, the EU’s anti-piracy naval force said pirates were holding a total of 31 vessels, and 688 hostages. Many of the vessels they target are cargo ships sailing near the Gulf of Aden – one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.Increasing violenceThe foreign ministry told the AP news agency that the ship sent a distress signal on Thursday: “It has now been confirmed that the sailboat was hijacked by pirates.”The Danes are be the second group of non-commercial sailors seized by pirates in recent weeks.A group of Americans was seized earlier in February, and four of them were killed as the US Navy tried to rescue them.US forces say the pirates shot them.Analysts say the piracy industry is becoming increasingly lucrative – Somali gangs recently hijacked a tanker with $200m (£136m) worth of crude oil on board.International naval forces patrolling the area are becoming more willing to send in commando teams to free hostages. But the pirates also appear to be responding with increasing violence – two Philippine sailors were murdered last month by pirates angered at an attempted rescue.
