USU Gymnastics Adds Assistant Coach

first_img FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailLOGAN, Utah-Monday, Utah State women’s gymnastics coach Amy Smith announced the addition of Erik Lewis to her staff.Lewis will serve as an assistant coach and help direct the program’s effort on the bars.Smith confirmed that she and Lewis’ fellow assistant, Whitnee Johnson, are thrilled to add him to the staff, calling Lewis “a true student of the sport.”Lewis, who has never been a collegiate coach before in his career, comes to Logan after spending the past year as the program director for Roswell Gymnastics of Roswell, Ga. Lewis coached level 5-10 men’s and women’s teams and NCAA gymnasts, while also developing budgets and allocated funds.Additionally, he led recruiting efforts, planning and directing meets hosted by Roswell Gymnastics.During his time at Roswell Gymnastics, he also oversaw a $266,000 athletic financial fund, created pre-team and team lesson plans, created and managed rotations for all events, supervised preschool and recreational classes, as well as managing enrollment for recreational programs.Prior to Roswell Gymnastics, Lewis had a comparable role at Armory Athletics of Montgomery, Ala., serving as the women’s spotter as well on floor, vault and bars for 35 athletes between Levels 7-10 and as an NCAA recruiting director.Lewis a 2013 graduate of Auburn-Montgomery at Montgomery, Ala. with a bachelor’s degree in biology. He has used his degree to help athletes enhance their performance and longevity in this discipline.
